I feel so lucky to have found Emma. After a procedure to deal with a laterally extruded lumbar disc, our cockerpoo needed help reducing pain and rebuilding strength in one of her hind legs. Emma did both. Our cockapoo is quite nervous but Emma took the time to put her at ease, giving some additional support to reduce her pain levels and over a few hydrotherapy treadmill sessions, she gradually built our dogs strength back up. Even more than this, Emma gave me an easy to follow rehab programme and the exercises have actually being fun to do together and have made a phenomenal difference to our dog’s balance and awareness of where her leg and paws are. Both our dog and myself felt very at ease with Emma and the difference our visits have made to our dogs recovery are outstanding. I’ve no hesitation at all and recommending Emma she’s everything you’ll ever need.

Over the past few months I’ve had the privilege of supporting three incredible RAF Police Dogs — Dara, Ivan and Sky — through their hydrotherapy treadmill work. Each of them has brought something completely different to a session, and watching them grow in strength, confidence and comfort has been a real joy.

Hydrotherapy has supported each of them in different ways: improving mobility, building strength, supporting comfort, and helping them stay fit for the demanding roles they hold. But what’s stood out most is their trust, their work ethic, and the bond they share with their handlers.

It’s been an honour to play a small part in their journey.
Here’s to Dara, Ivan and Sky — three exceptional dogs doing exceptional work. 💚

With the extreme temperatures forecast over the next few days, I’m keeping a very close eye on conditions to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all horses, dogs and owners.

If you have an appointment booked, please make sure it is safe to travel and please be aware that:
• Sessions may need to be adjusted or rescheduled if the heat reaches unsafe levels.
• Your animal’s comfort and welfare will always come first.
• I’ll contact you directly if any changes are needed.

Two tails, one story — and a reminder of why this work matters.

The handsome cocker spaniel in the photo is Spud, bred by me and loved beyond measure. His dad surprised me by framing this picture for my new clinic, and it’s already one of my favourite pieces.

The bottle of wine beside it was another thoughtful gift from Spud’s owner, a gesture of thanks for supporting him through an extra 18 months with his beloved Alf, who has sadly since crossed the rainbow bridge.

These moments, the memories, the privilege of helping animals live well for longer — are at the heart of every treatment I give.

It’s been super busy lately, seeing lots of wonderful faces, old and new and I’ve loved every minute!

I’ve seen some absolute super stars already this week but I just can’t not post about clever Miss Ella Bella ❤️ I am so pleased with how she has progressed, mum said ‘I think she’s moving more balanced’ and the measurements agree 🙌🏼

Not only physically but mentally she’s improved which as a therapist it’s what we strive to achieve, overall wellness.

Well done to Ella and her mum for all the hard work 🏆

🌱 Growing Bones, Growing Bodies: Why Time Matters for Young Horses

Most horses look grown long before they are grown. Their skeleton tells a very different story.

🦴 Growth plates don’t fully close until around 5–7 years old, and some of the most important areas — like the spine — are among the last to mature. So even when a youngster appears strong, coordinated, and eager… their internal structures are still developing.

✨ And here’s the key:
Just because they can and are willing, doesn’t mean they should.
A generous temperament or a bold attitude doesn’t equal a ready body.

Growth plates are made of softer cartilage before they ossify. Too much load, too early — ridden work, repetitive schooling, or even certain types of groundwork — can stress tissues that simply aren’t prepared for it yet.

💛 What young horses do need:

• Freedom to move
• Varied, natural terrain
• Social interaction and play
• Short, positive learning moments
• Time — the most underrated ingredient in lifelong soundness

When we honour their biology, we’re not holding them back. We’re giving them the strongest foundation for a healthy, resilient future.

🐶 Puppies Aren’t Mini Adults: Their Bodies Are Still Under Construction

One of the biggest misconceptions in the dog world is that a puppy’s confidence or enthusiasm means their body is ready for anything. In reality, their musculoskeletal system is quietly going through one of the most delicate phases of their entire life.

Inside those wiggly legs and oversized paws, growth plates are still open, guiding how each bone lengthens and strengthens. These plates stay active well into adolescence — and in many breeds, they don’t fully close until well past a year old.

Here’s the part that often gets overlooked:
A puppy’s willingness doesn’t equal physical readiness.
They’ll chase, jump, climb, and keep up with you simply because they want to — not because their joints are prepared for the load.

Early over‑exertion, repetitive impact, or too much structured exercise can place pressure on tissues that are still soft, still forming, still vulnerable.
Since the ‘well known’ 5minute rule has been proved to be incorrect, what can you do to help your puppy develop safely… here’s a few suggestions-

What supports healthy development:

• Natural, self‑directed play
• Avoiding jumping, unstable/wobbly surfaces , sharp twists and turns.
• Gentle exposure to different stable surfaces and environments
• Plenty of rest (more than most people realise)
• Age‑appropriate strengthening through everyday movement

Giving puppies time to grow isn’t about restricting joy — it’s about protecting their future mobility, comfort, and confidence. When we match activity to biology, we set them up for a lifetime of soundness.

Huge congratulations to Joey, who stormed to victory in the British Novice at the Arena UK Winter Championships — an incredible achievement and so well deserved.

And not to be outdone, Cheddar flew to the top spot at the Harborough Hunt Ride, showing everyone exactly what he’s made of.

Two horses, two wins, and a whole lot of hard work paying off. So proud of them both🙌🏼 and very privileged to be a small part of their team ☺️
